I included an acrylic spout drawing I made in 2009. I think this image suits the topic. This is the first painting I sold online. If I can remember correctly, this "boy" is now "dreaming" in the United Kingdom.
Last night we watched the movie Across the Universe. It was the first time for me to see it, even though it was released in 2007. The movie is a well-produced musical that portrays life in the 1960’s and 1970’s and features the music of the Beatles. I am not so familiar with the music of the Beatles, simply because I had other things that crossed my universe in the meantime. However, a few of the songs I could recall, simply because I heard them over the radio over the years. The musical portrays love stories and aspirations during a time of unrest and revolution; one friend remarked that nothing had changed during the last 60 years. In the movie one sees protests, war and the usual spiel – and it could therefore be a reflection of the present too.
We are currently in a time of international unrest caused by the pandemic and protests and yet, we still have the courage to entertain our dreams. It is quite remarkable that despite all that happened in the ages past and given the present state of affairs, the human heart is still able to dream of a world that is in harmony. Imagine, a place where everyone has room to be exactly who she or he can be the best version of themselves? Where nobody is running from domination and oppression? (A human version of heaven?)
I think, we will be bedazzled if we could find a way to heighten our appreciation capacity in order to acknowledge each other properly. Each of us carry within us the seeds of immense potential that can easily sprout and grow into bastions of safety for others, if we are surrounded by like-minded encouraging friends, where sharing the dream is a way of living. Let us spur each other on to keep on dreaming those good dreams and when we have a safe spot, to turn those dreams into reality as soon as possible. However, we live in a time where many of us are dreaming of stardom and greatness – the media made us believe to a degree that fame is the name of the ultimate dream – but to attain any measure of that fleeting fame we have to lean on people. People are fickle, we know that, but there are still good solid people around we can trust, who have philanthropic dreams, just like us.
We all need a huge dose of humility, because we need each other. Who can truly enjoy the attainment of a dream all by him or herself? Let us dream of fulfilling our individual (delightful) dreams, for the benefit of all, within the appreciative circle of a community of dream lovers (if at all possible). I think I must close with a few lines the Beatles wrote and these lines are sung during the closing scenes of Across the Universe: "All you need is love, All you need is love, All you need is love, love Love is all ..."
Very beautiful message. Thank you!
