About 25 years ago I created an abstract piece which was lovely to me, but it was clearly not the taste of a pair passing by. I laughed about their reaction and to this day I still find it funny. I will provide some background. I exhibited this piece at an outdoor art market in the Cape Town area. I was sitting slightly hidden under an umbrella and some people could actually have been unaware that I was there.
Two very cultured well-attired ladies arrived at my table and one of them turned to the other and said loudly, "It must be very nice just to take a brush and create a few strokes and get away with it". The other one agreed heartily. They walked away clearly impressed by their own wisdom and I smiled. I must just add here, that perhaps they were right, I am not the one to pass the verdict, but I can tell you that the painting was and still is so beautiful to me, not because I made it, but because the blue is so "blue". I will leave it up to you!
