This morning, as I was looking through my digital portfolio, I saw this acrylic on board painting I made in 1996. I looked at it for a while and I tried to imagine what the scene looked like in real life, before I “immortalized” it as a still life. At first glance it looked a bit confusing to me – even though I made it – and then I remembered. I put the pot with the flowers on the floor and the red-brown ("confusing") patterns around the fruit basket, are the floor tiles.
At times, we may feel we only have simple things, or that what we have to work with, is too mundane. There is hope.
If
we
have time:
Let us put our apples
and our garden’s flowers
simply on the floor, close the door;
as we can see, we don’t need much more;
declare a little personal messy “arty war”
and turn the little we think we have
into a classical
still life.
We may discover an abundant life.
I know it sounds a little too easy; we don’t understand each other’s difficult lives. However, sometimes a little change of perspective is what we need. Have a good day. Joan Miró said, “A simple line painted with the brush can lead to freedom and happiness.”
